Important Information For Your Vet

Here are a few facts we have found of which your veterinarian may not be aware.

The following have been known to kill skunks:

Baytril - Skunks can not have Baytril.  It has been directly related to deaths.  Baytril damages the liver and massive organ failure follows.

NSAIDS - This includes Baby Aspirin.  Skunks can not have NSAIDS.  They have been directly related to deaths.  NSAIDS damage the liver and massive organ failure follows.

Metacam - Skunks can not have Metacam.  It has been directly related to deaths.  Metacam damages the liver and massive organ failure follows.

Grapes - A popular treat for skunks also kills them by putting them into renal failure.  Even just a few have been known to kill a skunk.


The following can be given to skunks safely:

Anti-biotics ~ Amoxicillin, Amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium, Clavamox, Chloramphenicol, Chloromycetin palmitate, Cephalexin,Keflex (cefa), Sulfasoxazole/trimethoprim, Tribrissen

Anti-inflammatories ~ (do not give if patient has kidney problems),

Arthritic and Pain Relievers ~  Hydraplenish (Hyaluronic Acid) , Serraflazyme, Synovi, Traumeel
